Good Morning,
Remember as a kid you might have had the choice between an electric remote control car or a gas remote control car. The gas was messy, but provided more noise. The electric was quick and easy to use. Well, now here comes that same simple idea put in to a scooter. You might have heard the buzz about when the car industry debuted this idea with the Chevy Volt, but now here’s the scooter industry taking that same idea and applying it. The result is the Vectrix Maxi:
The Vetrix Maxi is actually more than just a novel idea with using just a battery to power the bike. They use the power of the electric motor to actually get better performance out of a scooter! Yeah, I said that. They get better acceleration than a gas powered scooter. The Vextrix Maxi can pull 0-50 Mph in under 7 seconds! Imagine getting launched in a quiet scooter to that speed. It would not doubt feel weird silent and fast. NICE
Vetrix put together a nice table outlining differences between the Vectrix and a gas Scooter:
| Attribute | Vectrix | Gas Scooter |
| Operating Costs | Very low | High |
| Maintenance | Minimal | High |
| Emmisions | Zero | High |
| Noise | Very Quiet | Noisy |
| Govt. Subsidies | Yes | No |
| Technology | Sunrise | Sunset |
| Growth Potential | High | Medium |
I hate to even sound more like a comercial, but here’s some more good info about it:
The Vectrix scooter was designed to outperform an equivalent gas scooter (e.g. 250 cc – 400 cc) in almost every way:
- 25% lower cost of ownership over 4 years
- Cheaper to run – electricity is 10% the cost of gas
- Zero emissions
- Very low noise
- Faster acceleration – Almost 30% faster to 50km/hr than a 250cc gas scooter
- Easier to ride – Stop and go throttle, no gears to shift
- Better handling due to low center of gravity
- Lower maintenance
- More convenient – Charge at home or the office (no need to “track down” hard to find inner-city gas stations)
- Cleaner – Avoid messy gas stations
- Exempt from road tax
- Lower insurance
- Attractive government incentives and rebates (up to €1,400 in Italy)
- Lower licensing and registration fees
- Free parking and charging in many cities
- Access to gas-restricted inner-city areas
The only bad for us in the USA is that Vetrix is in the UK
I love the idea. I wish it was here though.

I enjoyed your post. The Vectrix is an exciting machine, and I hope the company succeeds. However, they lost about 53 million dollars last year because the MSRP was $11,000. The Vectrix will be in the U.S. soon through a distributor in the east. The MSRP has dropped to about $8,900, but I’m not sure that this will entice a large enough group for the company to survive. I would love to own one, but the price tag is just too high.
